Cool new stuff, Kitchen-Aid mixers, and Cupcakes!!

Nov18

Am I thrilled or what?! First things first, my dad finally finished this!

The cabinet is made of bamboo and the top is soapstone (now for the shameless advertising!) check out more soapstone at shadleyssoapstone.com.

Anyway, As you can see sitting proudly on the countertop is my Kitchen-Aid mixer, a mixer that I adore, a mixer that I have been without for months, I'm so happy!

Isn't is BEAUTIFUL?

So, last night I just had to make something with my mixer, so, I grabbed The Dessert Bible and found the recipe for Basic White Cake (was gonna make yellow cake, but I didn't have eggs, just egg whites, so, I went with white) and though and got-a-mixing, once the cake was in the oven, I flipped through the book to find a frosting and i went with a favorite of mine, Meringue Frosting! Because these recipes come from a book, I can't publish them, but I can tell you that your money would be well spent if you purchase The Dessert Bible by Christopher Kimball for your home bakery.

I didn't just frost them, I also used the filling tip and popped some frosting on the inside for an extra little something.

If you do go and get that book, I suggest you also get Baking, From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan, I've learned how to make countless new confectionaries from those 2 books. I'm off to take the cat to the vet, good day!

Afternoon Snack: Easy Peasy Chocolate Mousse

Nov07

1 Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Jello Pudding Snack

1/4 cup Wallaby Vanilla Bean Yogurt

2/3 cup Cool Whip Lite (I used the in-a-can kind)

Mix together the pudding and yogurt until smooth, add the Cool Whip, mix, and enjoy!

This yummy snack contains approximately 140 calories and 3.5 grams of fat.

So, eat it and enjoy that you can have a HUGE bowl of this stuff (which is incredibly similar to the original mousse) for just 140 calories, don't worry, be happy! =)

Bittersweet Victory

Nov05

So, I'm just thrilled that Barack won last night! I was jumping up and down, this is gonna be a great 4 (hopefully 8) years!

And, another victory, Prop 2 passed! WHat happy chickens California will have!

And, then...Prop 8 passed...It's a dark day in gay land.

So, now we hope for some kind of turn over or maybe someone will realize that this is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and supremely DISCRIMINATORY!

Well, maybe someday I'll move to Canada and get married...

The Yogurt Obsessed

Nov01

Guilty. I adore yogurt, I love it so much, I think that I could spend my entire time in the grocery store in the yogurt section and love it, I fancy myself a bit of a yogurt aficionado, so, I thought I'd share some of my favorites.

Greek Yo

I know that Fage is the big deal in greek yogurt, but I personally prefer Oikos, I think that Fage is slightly too tart and plus, I like eating my yo without any mix-ins, so, I always buy vanilla and Fage doesn't make vanilla.

1 container of Oikos Vanilla has 110 calories, a whopping 15 grams of protein, and only 11 grams of sugar (anything under 30 is considered fine with yo, because the milk alone usually has 12 or more).

Trader Yo

I often hit Trader Joe's to grab a few things and yogurt is always on my list, so, I've tried a lot of Joe's yo and here's the verdict, just not my thing. It's fine and suitable if necessary, and I know that Kath adores it, but, none for me.

Nancy's

Nancy's doesn't fall into any category really, just in the YUM category. With lots of flavors and a creamy texture, along with cool nooch stats with 120 calories, 12 grams of protein, and 17 grams of sugar.

The Best Hands Down

I love all of these yogurts and I love other ones too, but for my day to day yogurt addiction, only Wallaby will do!
My daily flavor is Vanilla Bean, but they have a ton of flavors, about 10 in nonfat and another 15 in lowfat, so, go for it!
Each has 180 calories, 9 grams of protein and 29 grams of sugar, so, though not the most nutritious on the list, it's still good for you and it's so incredibly tasty, it doesn't even matter. =)

So, go and get some yo!
